About Almost on The Lake

Almost on The Lake, charmingly situated at 3600 NC-268, Wilkesboro, NC, offers a delightful escape for those seeking a memorable dining experience. Nestled near the tranquil waters, this hidden gem brings together rustic charm and a hint of elegance in its ambiance. The gentle sound of the breeze playing with the leaves adds to the serene experience, making one feel as if dining right by the lake, even though it's just shy of literal.

On the menu, a blend of Southern comfort meets modern-day flair. The chef has put together an impressive selection, starting with appetizers that burst with flavor. The fried green tomatoes, crisp to perfection and served with a spicy aioli, are simply irresistible. For something a bit heartier, the shrimp and grits are a crowd favorite, with plump shrimp lounging on creamy grits infused with a hint of tangy cheese.

Entrees are where the culinary creativity truly shines. The bourbon-glazed pork chop stands out, offering a rich, smoky essence that pairs beautifully with the side of roasted sweet potatoes. For seafood lovers, the charbroiled trout, seasoned with a citrus-herb butter sauce, is a must-try, its freshness evident with every bite. Vegetarians are not left behind either; the grilled portobello mushroom burger provides a delightful alternative, featuring a meaty mushroom cap layered with a melty cheese and zesty aioli, all tucked into a soft brioche bun.

Deserting the place without trying the sweets would almost be criminal. The pecan pie, served warm with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream, melds crunchy, gooey, and creamy into a harmonious symphony. Also deserving mention is the chocolate lava cake, which holds a surprise molten center waiting to ooze out at the first fork prick.

Almost on The Lake has received glowing reviews from locals and visitors alike, often earning five-star ratings for its friendly service and relaxed setting. Dining here feels less like a trip to a restaurant and more like visiting the welcoming home of an old friend, one who's an extraordinary chef.

Whether passing through Wilkesboro or living nearby, grabbing a meal at this establishment is a superb way to enjoy delicious food in a charming locale. It embodies a lovely dining experience, from the carefully curated menu to the ambient setting just shy of the lake. Be ready to leave with a satisfied palate and perhaps even a new favorite spot to dine.

Great food, scenery, and service. First time and definitely not the last. Our drinks were never empty, and the dam shrimp is worth trying. I had the pimento cheese burger, which had bacon and jalapeños. Very good.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 — April Kemper
Fun fishing cabin atmosphere, service was friendly and food was tasty, particularly enjoyed the mountain berry cobbler. Looks like the outdoor seating would be nice when it is not snowing like today.

I have lived on the Outer Banks for 10 years, and I know what good seafood tastes like. This restaurant has world-class seafood! I was very surprised by how good EVERYTHING was. I highly recommend the food here.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 — Cheryl Bayer
Waitress was very helpful with my allergies before I ordered. Hushpuppies and fish were fresh and delicious! Shrimp was delicious also! Sweet potato fries were not as good ,Kinda rubbery. Handcut fries were not fresh. Soggy and lukewarm. Green beans were out of a can.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 — Randy Bowers
Absolutely outstanding experience at Almost at the Lake! I ordered the chicken bacon club, and I can honestly say it's the best sandwich I've ever eaten-perfectly cooked chicken, crispy bacon, and fresh ingredients that just hit every note. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the service is top-notch, and everyone there makes you feel genuinely welcome. You can tell it's run by great people who care about what they're doing. This is the kind of place you can't wait to come back to-and I definitely will. Highly recommend!
